Event Details

Step into the wilderness as we celebrate the book release of Water Lines: A Life on Marshes, Rivers, Seas and in the Rain with Riverhorse Nakadate, Patagonia Fly-Fishing Ambassador, adventurer, musician, journalist, and environmentalist.

Riverhorse will be joined in conversation with Tony Czech, filmmaker, photographer, and adventurer who has worked alongside Riverhorse on films for Patagonia, including A Northern Light and The Reindeer Journals, as well as a mission into the Gulf of Mexico to shine a light on illegal fishing. Their adventures are featured in Water Lines.

The evening will feature a screening of A Northern Light, a short film written and narrated by Riverhorse and directed by Tony, followed by conversation, Q&A, and signing.

About Water Lines

A luminous, deeply felt collection of essays from Riverhorse Nakadate, whose devotion to wild places and the healing power of water pulses through every page. Across 32 essays, Nakadate paddles, hikes, casts, surfs, and canoes through landscapes as varied as the alpine lakes of Colorado, the salt marshes of his native Texas, the trout streams of Minnesota, Lapland in the Arctic Circle, Africa, and the mangrove swamps of the Yucatán. Whether he’s chasing redfish in a hurricane, rescuing baby squirrels and migrating monarch butterflies, or honoring his mother’s legacy with a canoe ride and a slice of sweet-potato pie, Nakadate writes with poetic precision and a fierce, tender reverence for the natural world and his fellow human travelers. For readers of Edward Abbey, Barry Lopez, Mary Oliver, and Jim Harrison, this book is a soulful invitation to step off the grid and into the current.

Tony Czech

Tony Czech is a filmmaker, photographer, and adventurer. He grew up in the far northern woods of Minnesota with the Boundary Waters as his backyard, where he fell in love with adventure and wilderness. After graduating in Minnesota, he set off for the west to chase whitewater, snow, and alpine climbing. While living out west, he helped write an extensive whitewater guide to the Rocky Mountain region and co-authored a guide to the greater Yellowstone area, eventually landing at Alpinist Magazine, where his love for photography launched his career as a storyteller.

In addition to the many adventures and creative projects he's shared with Riverhorse, Tony has worked in the rebel territories of Central America, trekked over 100 miles into the backcountry of Patagonia, and traced the Marco Polo route along the Tajikistan–Afghanistan border. He thrives on grit and absolute authenticity and currently calls Nashville home with his wife and two adventurous boys.
